The trilogy is not a song; it is a reading. This page opens the line of thought behind that reading in five headings — from ancient fire to modern heat death, from affirmation to the dark. At both ends of the line one idea returns: the flow is entropy itself; character’s requirement is to integrate with that flow, and what stands "against" it is the shadow.
The line
The claim under the trilogy stands between two ends of the same idea: that the universe is a flow spoken in the language of fire. At the ancient end, Heraclitus’ ever-living fire: the cosmos burns continuously, kindled in measures and going out in measures. At the modern end, entropy: the arrow of time, isolated systems running down, the physics of "everything eventually returns to ash." Between them sit projections of religion (pantheism), will (Schopenhauer), affirmation (Nietzsche), and the dark (Cioran, Zapffe).
